Today’s modern and efficient buildings often require the ability to control and operate doors remotely. This requires the transfer of electrical power and information from door frames to door panels.
The TECTUS Energy Series provides a sophisticated way to utilize this technology when card readers, access and door control systems, electrified locks, monitoring systems, and multimedia components are installed. The cable with its 16 wires is completely concealed behind the hinge arms to prevent unauthorized tampering.
TECTUS enables the optimal integration of flush doors in straight line and flush surfaces for contemporary clean designs.
The SIMONSWERK TECTUS TE 527 3D Energy concealed hinge is completely hidden for flush doors with wood, steel or aluminum doors and frames.
The three-dimensional adjustability and maintenance-free slide bearing technology of the TE 527 3D Energy hinge system is for use with high-quality commercial doors.

Frequently Asked Questions about TECTUS® hinges.
Is the listed capacity for each hinge or for a pair?
The capacities listed below are for two TECTUS® hinges installed. They are engineered to work best when there are two.
All Energy hinges retain their non-Energy model's capacity.
Can I get a greater load capacity by adding hinges?
At this time Simonswerk is reviewing this question as we've been asked this quite often. As listed above, the capacities are for the installation of two hinges. For the moment, if greater capacity is required, use the next hinge in the line.
However, it should be noted here that the rated capacity must be reduced for doors over 39 inches in width. For guidance in either of these situations, please contact us to discuss your options.
Where do I place the hinges on the door?
Top and bottom hinges should be located 10" (on center) from the top and bottom edge of the door. Unlike with Soss hinges, a third TECTUS® hinge will not add capacity to the system. With taller doors, installers often use a third hinge in the center.
What's the minimum thickness for each of the hinges?
Does the leading edge of the door need to be beveled?
This table shows the width, at given thicknesses, below which the latch side of a door fitted with Tectus® hinges requires an edge bevel. Please call us for further guidance.
Soss hinges are relatively inexpensive and may appear to be the better option if the cost of the individual hinge is the only measure. However, there are hidden costs which should be taken into consideration. The obvious technological difference is the ability to adjust the TECTUS hinge in 3 Dimensions. This allows for a much faster and more precise installation of the door. Now, if a door fitted with TECTUS needs to be tweaked, perhaps because the new building has settled, the installer need only get out his hex key and, with a few turns, bring the door back to flush. What we hear is that doors fitted with Soss frequently cause frequent call-backs requiring the door to be taken off and reworked or, worse, remade. Email us with any stories you have about your experience with Soss hinges.
Another consideration is the number of Soss hinges that need to be installed to achieve the higher capacities of the TECTUS® system. Check out the TECTUS vs OTHER CONCEALED HINGES cross reference guide for some examples.
Country of origin for Soss is Singapore. For Simonswerk TECTUS® it is Germany.
Customers who have used both have universally given the same feedback : significant savings are possible by using TECTUS® because the quicker and more precise installation of doors fitted with TECTUS® hinges and the nearly complete lack of call backs. We even have a few millworkers who strongly advocate using TECTUS® throughout a project, because they end up saving money for the owner.
Aesthetics is a matter of personal opinion, but we feel it's hard to argue against the more refined look and quality finishes available from Simonswerk's TECTUS®.
How many open-close cycles have the TECTUS® hinges been rated for?
The previous versions have been tested against ABHM BS EN 1935 and have received the highest rating of 200,000 cycles. The TE 340 3D hinge was recently tested to 1.5 million cycles (ANSI/BHMA). If your project requires more specific documentation, please contact us.
What are TECTUS® hinges made of?
Other than the TE 525 3D model, which is solid stainless steel, the main body of the other TECTUS hinges is cast in an aluminum alloy. The black plate that wraps around the hinge body is powder-coated steel. The coverplates are steel, and are finished to match the 'knuckle' of the hinge. All visible surfaces of the hinge match the specified finish.
Is there a minimum order for special order RAL tones?
TECTUS® hinges now come in 3 new Bronze finishes. Please call us for details and pricing.
CUSTOM FINISHES : TECTUS® hinges can be custom finished (e.g. 24k gold plating, hot pink powder-coated). For custom RAL colors or finishes, please contact us for pricing and minimum quantities.
